The Coalition of University Student Association of Ghana, has drawned the attention of the President of the Republic of Ghana ,in his second address on the COVID-19 pandemic, announced emergency precautionary measures to be observed across the country. Among the steps taken include a ban on all social gathering. The coalition of university students has learnt with worry and disappointment, that in spite of the President’s directives, the National Identification Authority is yet to suspend temporarily its mass Ghana card registration exercise currently ongoing in the Eastern region.
According to the Public Relations Officer Mr Kabore Kaliu, No gathering in this country, be it social, economic, political, academic, or religious, is more ban-worthy than the Ghana Card mass registration exercise. Earlier, the Coalition of University Students, had called upon the government to suspend the exercise before Ghana recorded her first confirmed case of the COVID-19. Succinctly, we made the argument why continuity of the registration exercise could have more damaging impact on the country at this material moment of the ravaging and savaging COVID-19.
However, it appears the exercise is what government considers to be more harmless. As though without it, Ghana would not prosper.
Kabore Kaliu said, as concerned university students of Ghana, intercepted a Press statement by the National Identification Authority (NIA) which struggled to defend the continuity of the exercise in spite of the ban.
Some of the excerpts of the Press Statement of the NIA read: “Pursuant to the directive of H. E. The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, regarding the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country, the National Identification Authority, NIA has determined that mass registration in the Eastern Region is to continue under the following guidelines and protocols.” Under that were some alien guidelines they enumerated which would guide the registration exercise in this trying times.
He conclude that, their Press Release assuring that, “The authority wishes to assure the general public that it is committed to ensuring that the registration exercise is conducted in utmost safety, with all reasonable despatch and economy in order to prevent the spread of corona virus whiles fulfilling its statutory obligation of efficiently registering qualified Ghanaians and issuing them with the Ghana Card. The authority would continue to observe closely the implementation of the foregoing and guidelines and would issue such further directives as may be necessary and appropriate”
Meanwhile, “government through the Attorney General is set to seek parliamentary approval for emergency legislation that will stipulate punishment for groups or persons who go contrary to the national ban on mass gathering following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ghana.” Yet, the NIA is vehemently in operation despite the directive by the government under which auspices the NIA operates.
We find this “smart move” by the government repugnant, and condemn that hypocrisy in no uncertain terms.
The NIA as a law abiding state institution should as a matter of urgency and in the supreme interest of our population, immediately call off the exercise observe in strict compliance the directives of His Execellency the President.

The chief Executive director of ASEPA in collaboration with IMANI has hold a Press briefing at the Ghana International Press Center with the interest of highlighting the Electoral Commission diabolic attempt to lied to Ghanaians that, the BVD and BVR machines are obsolete due to old age because the procurement was done in 2011.
However report of the Special Budget Committee of Parliament suggests that the Electoral Commission procured new sets of BVDs and BVRs. Atleast 2500 of these machines has been procured between 2016 and 2018.
Exercutive Director ASEPA Mensah Thompson
Mr Mensah Thompson added that, the Electoral Commission should terminate the vending contract given to Thales Gelmatos due to its reputational crisis. -As we speak Thales is under serious investigations in South Africa for bribing the former South African President, Jacob Zuma -Estonia has currently sued Thales Gelmatos for over €160Million for poor handling of its National ID card -In Cambodia Thales is currently under sanctions by the World bank for procurement malpractices. -In Gabon, Thales is currently under serious investigations for messing up their Electoral system.
It is therefore surprising that Parliament, particularly the Special Budget Committee has watched on whiles the Electoral Commission has perpetuated such blatant lies without setting the record straight.
Records of the Finance Ministry also suggests that over GHC40million has been spent on the refurbishment of the machines since 2015, it is therefore not true that the machines have not seen any upgrade or servicing since 2011, dares.
Considering the above information, Mr Mensah Thompson urged the E.C not to sacrifice its credibility by handing over the procurement of such important machines and the entire vending process to Thales Gelmatos.
We therefore call for the immediate termination of any arrangements between the E.C of Ghana and Thales Gelmatos.

Fmr president John Dramani Mahama’s seat remain unoccupied
The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, has once again boycotted a national event, a sequel to how he failed to show up at the delivery of President Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation’s Address in Parliament.
The former President avoided the colourful Kumasi Independence Day Celebration like a plague, citing reasons which are more petty than plausible.
Ex president John Dramani Mahama
Sources close to the former President explain that a number of reasons have accounted for this snobbish behavior of the former president.
Citing the death of Ahmed Suale and general insecurity in the country, Electoral Commission’s uncompromising attitude towards the decision to compile a new voters’ register, PDS and the pursuit of the Airbus saga as reasons, the former President believes these are potent enough to inform his decision to boycott the event.
The source also hinted that today being the birthday of the former President’s wife, Lordina Mahama, it is a good opportunity for him to celebrate the former first lady.
Another school of thought which could neither be confirmed or denied by the source has it that Mahama is still pained by the Asantehene’s UN speech which detailed Mahama’s unwillingness to hand over power to then President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. That, it is believed, also contributed to Mahama treating such an august occasion with disdain.
As can be seen by the media, the former President’s seat remained unoccupied throughout the event, leaving many questioning his patriotism towards the country Ghana.
This behaviour of the former President Mr.John Dramani Manama has made many Ghanaian’s talk over the issue of the former president not attending another national program as the nation celebrates its 63rd Independent day ceremony.
The association calling itself Concern Youth of Nkoranza North are calling the head of their District chief executive Hon Gifty Akosah Arthur for her poor performance.
According to the demonstrators, the president of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed Gifty Akosah Arthur into office she has not added anything development to the district and there the need for her to resign from office.
Aggrieved Youth
According to the secretary to the youth ,Hon Gifty Akosah Arthur cannot show at least one projects she has done at her three years in office. Therefore we are pleading to the president as matter of urgence to remove her or call her to other .
The residents and people of Nkoranza north district have emerged at the district capital Busunya, demonstrating against their District Chief Executive (DCE) Gifty Akosah Arthur on her poor performances in the district since she was appointed into office for the past three years.
They are calling on the minister for local government and rural development Hajia Alima Mahama and the President Akufo-Addo into the matter and remove the DCE from office, they can accept her as their DCE who doesn’t bring development to her people.
They are in red attires some have red bans on the heads and arms holding placards with inscriptions such as, “AKOSAH ARTHUR WE ARE TIRED OF YOU”, “Blood sucking DCE”, “Yen Gyidie Asa w) DCE no Mu”, “Incompetence DCE”, “NKORANZA NORTH NEEDS CHANGE” etc……
Conveyor Emmanuel Wiafe
Emmanuel Opoku Wiafe is the leader of the youth he spoke with the media on that occasion.
He again added that they have made contributions from the Chiefs, institutions, citizens from various communities and philanthropist, at ceremony called Home summit (2nd April, 2018): The summit idea was a collective decision taken by the entire district with the aim to build a district hospital but the that ceremony they got Ghc32, 000 no accountability after the program was not properly done and full of inaccuracies and also no hospital have been built.
Emmanuel Opoku Wiafe allegedly accused the DCE Hon Gifty Akosah Arthur that she is the metrone for seven schools in the District which she uses government (Assembly) Pick up to conveyed their foods to the various schools. They also urged the DCE Hon Gifty Akosah Arthur to provide them with their Ambullance government provided for each constituency.
The Coalition of Ashanti Students for Development; Protests Vehemently Against the Blatant Attack On “Achievers” Like Dr. Kwabena Duffour And Other Businessmen in The Ashanti Region by Government
The president A W Kaboreh addressing the media said ,if you have put your noose on the grindstone in the recent times you might have heard about the preposterous attacks on perceived political opponents. One of such assaults has hits one of the “brightest star” of Ghana like a thunderbolt. There have been what we describe as unfortunate unmitigated and unabated litigations against some of the sons and daughters of the land.
We the students of the above coalition (Coalition of Ashanti Students for Development) by this communique, wish to express our animosity, reservations and disgust at the trend of events unfolding as far as the continuous pursue for destruction., the businesses and reputation of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and the former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, is concerned. Without equivocation, we want to state that, not only do we perceive these unnecessary litigations against the former governor as a political witch-hunt unleashed by the government on him as celebrated and venerated “grandfather” of economic management and excellence in Ghana, but the Ashanti Region itself feels targeted by this particular regime.
Mohamud A W Kabore prez CASFoD
A W Kaboreh added that, over the last three years of this administration, we have systematically taken notice of the rather kamikaze and fruitless effort to cripple businesses of some sons and daughters of the Ashanti Region, typical example is Mr. Isaac Osei former CEO of the Tema oil refinery, who according to the Institute of Energy Security (IES), his resignation was induced by persons who wanted him to approve a shady deal that would have cost tax payers millions of dollars, the major “electoral cash cow” of the ruling government. What is provoking and motivating what we consider a politically unwise step taken by the government, is not known, but there’s every effort made by the current administration to castigate the development of the Ashanti Region. Friends from the media, before we go ahead, let’s take the pain to list a few of the businesses established by Dr. Kwabena Duffour
Dr kwabena Duffuor fmr finance minister
Star Assurance: Giving hope to a good number of Ghanaians.
Duffour farms: Employing 1000s of youth within the Sekyere and Afram Plains enclave.
The EIB network, also employing 1000s of young men and women in the media industry.
IFS also in place.
Kumawuman Rural Bank is not left out.
The defunct Unibank did not only serve as a source of employment for many graduates but also a source of scholarship opportunities for many students. Apostles of democratic freedom in the media, it is rather mind-boggling that a man who assuages the woes of the government in terms of job creation in this country is under siege by government for employing Ghanaians who would have been otherwise waited for government’s jobs.
It is on the heels of this notion and anomaly we want to set the record straight – in respect of the aforementioned business mogul, revered technocrat, who is one of the best and an astute citizen as well, Dr. Duffuor – that the greedy attempt by the current administration to "kill" the businesses of many hardworking Ghanaians with its accompanying artificial unemployment, won’t simply wash in the Region.
We believe, not only our Coalition would condemn this wicked form of governance and economic management without reservation, but all right-thinking Ghanaians won’t remain silent with hands akimbo to watch the Ashanti Region’s Achiever’s businesses go down the drain like we have it happened to our own Nana Oduro of Allied Savings and Loans, Joseph Nsonamoah of UT bank, Dr. Duffour and his Unibank as well as Dr. Papa Kwasi Nduom and his financial empire.
Ladies and gentlemen of the media, it beats the imagination and intelligence of the ordinary Ghanaian, that a government that promises jobs finds comfort and luxury in the destruction of companies and factories, rendering the few who have been employed, jobless. With the minutest fault with a company or its own, the government calls for its demolition. How are we going to go beyond the much-touted Ghana Beyond Aid policy with this state of affairs? Again, it is not any figment of our imagination but from a sound observation we have made over the last few years, that the government posturing and general modus operandi, is gradually departing from the realm of democracy into a realm of dangerous Fascism, Nazism, Autocracy and Totalitarianism. We believe this won’t help matters, and there’s every shouting need for government to reconsider some of the decisions it takes recently in the corporate landscape. For how long should we continue to deny many Ghanaians their daily bread in the name of pursuing accused fraud businessmen?
We wish to state categorically clear that, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor is not a hardcore politician who could have amassed his massive wealth from the proceeds of borrowing on behalf of the ordinary Ghanaian. He is an excellent Achiever who needs to be celebrated and not demeaned and destroyed. He is one of the few economics and bankers the country can boast of as a national asset and not as a national villain. Friends from the media, help us convey this message to every Ghanaian that, the man Dr. Duffour, a proud son of the Ashanti land gave his salary and allowances as a Finance Minister to the state for the betterment of Ghana. Again, he refused to accept state vehicle, accommodation among other state benefits as a minister of state. As if that was not enough, Dr. Duffour unlike other former appointees, again donated his end of service benefits (Ex-gratia) to the development of mother Ghana. Ladies and gentlemen of the press, Dr. Duffuor is one of the fewer Ghanaians we have today who still maintain the anachronistic traditions in this country and exudes the true Ghanaian hospitality. He’s a father to many fatherless, enabler and promoter of upcoming talents. Dr. Duffuor, unappreciated by many due to striking ignorance, is a handler, manager, and supporter of many households and families through his voluntary service to Ghana and creation of jobs. Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has the longest Curriculum vitae time and space won’t allow us to enumerate. He’s a man of international repute with numerous accolades under his belt. In 1998, for example, Dr. Duffuor was voted "Personality of the Year" by the Independent Newspaper in Ghana. In this same year, he was again voted "Marketing Man of the Year" by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG).
For his loyal and meritorious service to the banking industry in Ghana the Institute of Bankers – Ghana, conferred an Honorary Fellowship on Dr. Duffuor in November 1997. In September 1999, he was commended for being one of the best four Central Bank Governors in the World by Euromoney Publications at the IMF/World Bank meeting held in Washington, DC. In May 2002, Duffuor was honoured by the GCB Bank in recognition of his 26 years of loyal and dedicated service to the bank as well as the honour done to the bank in his appointment to the high office of the governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Again, in February 2002, the Rural Bankers’ Association of Ghana honored Dr. Duffuor for his immense contribution to the development of the Rural Banking sector in the country. In September 2002, The Ashanti Regional chapter of the Rural Banker’s Association’s appreciated and honored Dr. Duffuor for being founder and first president of the association who also made very significant contribution to the development of a vibrant rural banking industry in the Ashanti Region. In July 2010, Dr Duffuor was awarded the International Distinguished Merit Award by the West African Insurance Institute, in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the development of Insurance in Africa and specifically for his unreserved support for the promotion of insurance education in the region and especially to the West African
Insurance Institute. In 2011 he was named by The Banker as Africa’s finance minister of the Year 2011. Also, in October 2011, Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment research and communication group awarded Dr. Duffuor the African Finance Minister of the Year 2011 Award during the prestigious Africa investor (Ai) Investment and Business Leader Awards held in Washington during the World Bank Annual Meetings. Dr. Duffuor received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Banking and Finance from Corporate Initiative Ghana, organizers of Ghana Banking Awards, at a ceremony held in December 2014. In January 2015, TV station Viasat 1 named Dr Duffuor "Man of the Year 2014" in Ghana, for his outstanding success in business. This was the second time this ‘‘Man of the Year’’ award has been given to the same person in his lifetime in Ghana. In July 2015, Duffuor received an Exceptional Achievement award from GUBA at an event that took place at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, London. Most recent one is the 2017 EMY Africa Awards, where he was crowned the ULTIMATE MAN OF THE Year.
We can go on and on enumerating the achievements of this wonderful man. It would therefore be a wicked character assassination to brush all these achievements aside and go ahead to defame his hard-won reputation because of politics. We remind government that, despite its attempts to paint some sons and daughters of the Ashanti land black, Dr. Duffuor’s achievements, contribution to youth development and his voluntary services to this country has made him worthy of celebrating and that is what we will do.
