We’ll Grab These 7 Parliamentary Seats From The NDC In Court: NPP’s

The face of NPP

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen has dropped a fresh list of some Parliamentary seats being contested in court by the NPP.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, who is so a member of the NPP legal and constitution team indicates that the NDC should be ready for the battle, because the NPP is poised to grabbing all the seven seats filed in court.

He says that some of the candidates who won on the ticket of the NDC from the constituencies under contention hold dual citizenships.

He indicates that others who ex-convicts, and as such cannot hold parliamentary positions under the laws of Ghana.

“The NDC won the constituencies I have mentioned to you, but there are issues about some of their candidates and we have other challenges with the rest.

There is someone who is an ex-convict but won the election for the NDC. One of them has three different forms of citizenship from Ivory Coast, United Kingdom, and Ghana”. Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen noted.

Some of the Parliamentary seats the NPP is looking forward to grabbing from the NDC include Jomoro, Buem, Salvalugu, Kintampo North, Assin North, and Pusiga constituencies.

He notes that there will soon be an unfolding Drama in court as the NPP lawyers have gathered enough evidence to take the seats from the NDC.

“If you look at Buem for example, Kofi Adams won the election but those who did not vote in the election were about 17,000 voters.

All those people were denied the right to vote, so if the NDC says they are contesting Hohoe, then Buem will be taken from them.

The NPP has been silent but we have the lawyers to defend all these cases in court. We have closed all our cases and the court will be very interesting”. Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen indicated.

He added that any other candidate of the NPP who has issues with the results declared in his constituency should reach out to the constitutional and legal committee to take it up.

Take Kennedy Agyapong serious, he is more than a prophet – Prophet Amoako-Atta

Hon Ken Agyapong MP

The Founder and Leader of the Parliament House Chapel, Prophet Francis Amoako-Atta has labelled Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong as ‘someone who is more than a prophet’.

According to him, the controversial Legislator has been making several comments which later come to pass hence must be taken seriously.

One of these prophecies, the man of God who was speaking on Angel 102.9FM’s Anopa Bofoo said is his call on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop the fight over who succeeds the presidency.

Kennedy Agyapong had said that the timing for such activity is not right given that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has just been sworn into office for his second term.

He explained that if the NPP will be able to win the next elections it will largely depend on the performance of Mr Akufo-Addo hence, he should be supported to deliver.

Posters of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Trade Minister Alan Kyeremateng vying for the flagbearership position of the NPP ahead of the next elections have emerged on social media just few weeks after the party won the December 7 2020 elections.

“Even when we haven’t sworn in President Akufo-Addo there was this issue about Alan and Bawumia, who among them will lead NPP into 2024. What is this? This brings a lot of fragmentation, it disintegrates the party completely.

“I will appeal to the party people to take a lesson from how most of the NPP MPs lost in the 2020 elections. Ghanaians are not fed up with the NPP, rather the doing of NPP members themselves is costing the party.

“What happened to our MPs is a sign that we need to work hard to win 2024. If we all come together , realize our mistakes and put things behind us and rally behind whoever will eventually win the flagbearer position when the time comes we will have victory. With unity definitely we will win 2024.

“Let us give ourselves two years and see. The likelihood of any candidate to win 2024 will depend on Akufo-Addo. The man has just been sworn-in and so let us see how far he can take the country,” he said.

Prophet Amoako-Atta had predicted that the NPP would lose the 2024 elections if they do no put an end to the early lobbying for the flagbearer slot of the party.

“You see Ken Agyapong also said same and I am glad they have put an end to this nonsense of internal competition for the flagbearer…,” he said.

Supreme court has quashed the injection placed on Hohoe MP elect

Deputy AG Godfred Dame

The Deputy Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has said he is satisfied with the decision of the Supreme Court to quash the injunction placed on Hohoe MP-elect John Peter Amewu by a Ho High Court.

The Highest Court of the land, has today by a unanimous decision dismissed the injunction placed on the swearing in of Energy Minister Amewu by a Ho High Court.

The action of the apex court now paves the way for Mr Amewu to be sworn in on Thursday January 7 as the lawmaker for the people of the area.
The Supreme Court said the Ho High Court did not have the jurisdiction over the matter, hence the decision to quash the injunction.

Mr Godfred Dame AG deputy

Speaking to journalists after the Supreme Court’s ruling, Mr Godfred Dame said the case that went before the Ho High Court “was totally out of order because you cannot seek election petition reliefs  in a human rights action  and today the Supreme Court has held to the same effect that it was unjustified  for them to have commenced  an election petition  and characterized him as a human rights  action.

Supreme Court clear Amewu

John Peter Amewu . MP elect Hohoe

MP-elect for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu, will know his fate on Tuesday, 5 January, 2021 when the Supreme Court delivers its judgment on an interim injunction placed on the Electoral Commission not to gazette his parliamentary results.

The five-member panel headed by Justice Yaw Appaw fixed the date after rejecting an application from Tsatsu Tsikata for a panel member, Justice Clemence Honyenuga, to recuse himself from the case.

He argued Justice Honyenuga has a long-standing relationship with Amewu, but the apex court said the application has no merit.

The Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame on behalf of the state filed a motion at the Supreme Court to fight the injunction placed on Amewu as MP-elect for Hohoe by the Ho High Court.

The injunction was granted after some residents of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) argued that the Electoral Commission’s failure to allow them to vote in the just-ended parliamentary elections amounted to a breach of their rights.

They said, the creation of the Oti Region, coupled with a recent Supreme Court decision and failure of the EC to create a constituency for them, meant they did not vote for a parliamentary candidate in the just-ended election.

It is the case of the state that John Peter Amewu’s victory in the Hohoe parliamentary election was gazetted a day before the residents of SALL went to the High Court to place an injunction on the process.

Godfred Dame further argued that the High Court in exercising its human rights oversight had no jurisdiction to grant the injunction as the SALL residents did not go through the proper procedure.

He further added that the residents of SALL do not belong to the Volta Region where the Hohoe constituency is found therefore cannot challenge the election of the Member of Parliament.

On the other hand, lawyers of the residents of SALL argued that the action by the Electoral Commission to deny their clients from voting in the parliamentary election in Hohoe is a breach of the fundamental human rights, administrative justice and the right to equality before the law
