The Jomoro Municipal Police Commander, in the Western Region, Superintendent McCarthy Zenge, has allegedly committed suicide.
Reasons for the act remain sketchy as the deceased left no suicide note to suggest reasons for which he allegedly committed the act by shooting himself in his room with his sidearm.
But subordinates are currently grieving and are also in shock over the act which occurred on Friday night.
The latest incident comes barely two years after a police sergeant with the Marine Unit, who was on operational duty at the Osagyefo Power Barge in the Western Region, reportedly committed suicide, by shooting himself with an AK 47 rifle.
He is said to have shot himself with the rifle, which had officially been assigned to him for work purposes in protecting the power barge in 2019.
The Hon member of Parliament for Ofonase-Ayerebi and an immediate past information minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has described the motion moved by Hon MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga as inappropriate and does not meet the required standards.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah in his argument on floor of Parliament said, the motion must be clear and specific but not ambiguous, he continues to say that, the motion must not encourage illegality or unconstitutionality, it must not be discriminatory and finally busy follow best practices.
Responding to Mr Oppong Nkrumah’s debate, the Hon member of Parliament for North Tongu and a former ranking member on foreign affairs committee, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa said, Corona virus has really cost us as a country which has led our economy in recession.
He added that, due to the effects of COVID-19, many Ghanaians have lost their jobs, many have been laid off and there is considerable difficulty in the system and that is why governments across the globe have been intervening to reduce and to assist their citizens.
Therefore, government of Ghana has no excuse to come in at this point to assist students in the direction the motion is seeking his high office to address to bring some relief to parents and students at the public tertiary institutions and by extension, assist accredited private tertiaries as well.
Mr Okudzato was wondering why NPP government would find it difficult to accept and implement the request for giving assistance to tertiary students in the country since, in the 2020 election campaign, the NPP promise to give financial assistance to tertiary students without even a guarantor, and all what they need is their Ghana Card to access loans for their fees.
But the immediate past deputy Education minister, Dr Yaw Adu-twum responded to Mr Okudzato Ablakwa that, that promise still holds, just that, as we speak, the Nana Addo led government has not even gotten its ministers yet, therefore, the minority and NDC should exercise patience.
He also added that, more than seventy percent of tertiary students have already paid their fees, so which fees is Mr Ayariga is asking government to absorb again.
RICHNEWS.COM correspondent in the Volta Region, has said that the refusal of the state to allow former President Jerry John Rawlings to be buried the Anlo way has some implications.
Though he fell short in detailing what the implications of such an omission would be, one could decipher from her comments that the people of Anlo are peeved over the matter.
While they are at it, it is important to state that the committee charged with the responsibility of planning and executing the final funeral rites of the former head of state has Ambassador Victor Gbeho as chairman.
Victor Gbeho is a true son of the Anlo land and must be conversant with the culture and traditions of the people.
What remains latent as we speak is why the Anlo people were ‘disenfranchised’ in the scheme of things. I believe Ambassador Gbeho and his team would be in a better position to clarify the air over the matter.
As for the implications that would likely befall the state over the fact that former President Rawlings was not allowed to be interred the Anlo way, we still want to know as that would inform our commentaries going forward.
After a series of gymnastics towards the filing of their witnesses’ statements, the legal team of the petitioner finally but reluctantly put pen to paper and what has come out as the statement from one of the witnesses holds one spellbound.
In his witness’ statement, General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah believes, amongst other things, that the NDC suffered in the hands of the Electoral Commission’s Chairperson based on some reasons.
He states that there is a familial relationship between Jean Adukwei Mensah and the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and that played a pivotal role in the decisions against the NDC.
Putting it simply, Asiedu Nketiah and his NDC allege that Jean Mensa is a family member of President Akufo-Addo’s wife, and that’s one key factor that has militated against the NDC.
The Jean Mensa/Rebecca Akufo-Addo familial ties is a figment of the perverted imaginations of Asiedu Nketiah and his friends. There is no familial relationship between the two.
This makes that testimony a barefaced falsehood since it is a pure invention of Asiedu Nketiah and his people. Since there is no iota of truth in this assertion, same cannot be proven with hard facts and must be scrapped. The Supreme Court must throw them out over this contemptuous episode.
What is not in contention is the fact that there is no blood relationship between the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Jean Mensa and this is strong enough for their case to be put into a dustbin.
Pressure is mounting on former President John Dramani Mahama to instruct his lawyers to withdraw the 2020 election petition filed at Supreme Court (SC) challenging the outcome of the just-ended presidential election results which the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Jean Mensa declared Nana Akufo-Addo as the winner.
Communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, Suleman Abdullai has described as unfair after a nine-member review panel of the Supreme Court dismissed a motion moved by lawyers of former president John Mahama seeking leave to file “an additional ground of review” to the review application on the interrogatories.
“I am not a lawyer but the arbitrary dismissals of our application despite superior arguments are unfair to the petitioner.
A nine-member review panel of the Supreme Court has dismissed a motion moved by lawyers of former president John Mahama seeking leave to file “an additional ground of review” to the review application on the interrogatories.
Lead Counsel of the petitioner, Tsatsu Tsikata who moved the motion made reference to copious authorities and urged the court to oblige them file their request since it will assist the court to make a proper determination of the review pending.
According to the outspoken politician, it beats reasonable thinking that the Justices of the Supreme Court will take such position against Mr. Mahama and the NDC considering previous rulings of the same Supreme Court.
“This same Supreme Court in 2012 allowed Nana Akufo-Addo lawyers to asked then EC Chair some questions. Why are they denying Mahama’s lawyers today”, Suleman Abdullai quizzed host.
Former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, who is also spokesperson for Mahama’s legal Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, has also described as unfair, the rulings by the Supreme Court panel hearing the Election petition.
“The rulings coming out are short unlike 2013 when there were detailed rulings…we have to say that the petitioner is not being treated fairly,” Appiah-Oppong said, adding “it is not unfortunate but we have to say it as it is, the petitioner is not being treated fairly…so we disagree with the ruling of the Supreme Court, it’s unfortunate but that is their decision so there isn’t much we can do.” she addressed journalists after Thursday’s hearing.
The Rebecca Foundation in collaboration with Nylex Company has donated test kits to the Noguchi Memorial Institute and Laptops to the Christian Health Association of Ghana to help combat the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Ghana.
Making the donation on behalf of the First Lady and Nylex Company, Mrs. Shirley Laryea Chief of Staff at the Office of the First Lady said, she is very optimistic that the donation will go a long way to help the fight against COVID-19 in the country.
“I am very humbled donate these items on behalf of the First Lady and the Rebecca Foundation and trust that our contribution will help support the fight against COVID 19, and also improve the health care systems in Ghana” she said.
Receiving the test kits the, Director of Nuguchi Memorial Institute, Prof Abraham Kwabena Anang indicated that the particular test kits donated is capable of providing a larger quantity of test results in a relatively short period, which will help Nougouchi keep up with the increasing demands for testing. “I am indeed grateful for this kind gesture by the Rebecca Foundation and Nylex Company. I pray for God’s blessing for the First Lady and her foundation for this wonderful support”, he added.
The Executive Director of Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr. Peter Yeboah who received the laptops on behalf of the Association, enumerated the current challenges facing the Association as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic and indicated the laptops will help support faster and accurate data generation to enhance their service delivery.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command have arrested more than 200 persons in Kumasi.
The people were arrested this morning for failure to wear their nose masks a violation of Executive Instrument (EI 164).

The law states that those who are found guilty would be fined a minimum of GHC 12,000 or a maximum of GHC 60,000 or be sentenced to between 4 and 10 years in prison.
In line with enforcing the law, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has deployed personnel to the vintage streets of Kumasi, Ashanti Regional capital to ensure that all persons moving in and out, wear a face mask or are otherwise punished.

The Police revealed that Operation Wear Your Face Mask will continue every day to punish offenders of the Executive Instrument (EI 164).

Importers and transporters of Tomatoes in the country have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike action where all their vehicles would be parked.
Their strike action, according to Osei Tuffour, National Chairman of Tomatoe Transporters and Traders Association of Ghana is to protest against what they termed consistent robbery attacks on them on the Kumasi-Bolgatanga-Burkina Faso highway.
They have therefore accused Ghana police service for failure to intensify patrols and check points on the highway.
