Assembly members of Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly have been schooled on mechanisms they can utilize to mobilize resources for the development of their respective electoral areas.

The above formed part of periodic training events organised by officials of the No Business As Usual (NBU) Project at their hub located within the Municipality.

It was aimed at helping them overcome the challenge of unavailability of resources to implement programs which impeeds development.

Speakers for the event were Dr. Terry Kessie; Executive Director for Network for Empowered Youth for Development (NEYOD) and assembly woman for Ankaase electoral area at Bosome Freho District Hon Sharon Mensah.

The foremost trained them on the concept of local resource mobilisation, how to get local resources, how to identify mechanisms that are appropriate for resource mobilisation etc.

He also conscientised them on some behavourial qualities which they have to exhibit in other to get resources from providers which are; credibility, strong reputation, positive image, mutual respect among others.

Dr. Terry Kessie strongly underlined in his presentation that “the biggest threat to local resource mobilisation are activities , ideas and association that cause sharp division in society.”

They are partisan politics, tribalism, racism, religious conflict, corruption, discrimination etc.

Assembly woman for Akaase also shared with participants how she manages to mobilize resources to execute developmental projects in her area.

She advised assembly members to do away with partisan divisions, have respect for authorities and work in unity so as to earn resources for development.

THE REBECCA FOUNDATION DONATES HOSPITAL BEDS AND CONSUMABLES TO KANESHIE POLYCLINIC

The Rebecca Foundation has donated an appreciable number of hospital beds and consumables to the Kaneshie Polyclinic in the Greater Accra Region.

This is to support healthcare delivery at the health facility.

The items donated includes, 20 hospital beds, Wheelchairs, plasters, PPE’S, Compression Bandages, Syringes and Needles, Bedside Lockers, Sterile Gloves and many others to support activities at the hospital.

Making the presentation on behalf of the First Lady of the Republic and the Executive Director of the Rebecca Foundation, Mrs. Sheila Sakyi Oppong, spokesperson for the foundation said, the donation was to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

“I am very excited to present these items to the hospital. I am deeply convinced that this donation will help increase the capacity of the health facility in the management of patients” she said.

Mrs. Sakyi Oppong also took the opportunity to entreat the public to always adhere to the Ghana Health Service’s COVID 19 safety protocols.

“Let me take this privilege to urge everyone to be vigilant by strictly adhering to the COVID-19 protocols so that we can protect ourselves and our families”, she added.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Darkoa Newman who was present at the brief ceremony expressed gratitude at the gesture by the Rebecca Foundation.

She was convinced the items will go a long way to help the health facility which is located in her Constituency and beyond.

On her part, Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Kaneshie Polyclinic, who received the beds and consumables on behalf of the health facilities
Mrs. Doris Antwi, thanked The Rebecca Foundation for the kind gesture.

“I am very overwhelmed with this kind support from the First lady of the Republic. I strongly believe this gesture will help our ability to take care of patients and also improve health care in the constituency. We are very grateful mummy”, she said.

NDC’s Allotey Jacobs Grabs Deputy Ministrial Position In Akuffo Addo Second Term of Office

It has emerged that former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has been appointed as a Deputy Minister in the Akufo-Addo led government.

According to information from the grapevine, negotiations on the matter have been concluded and Allotey Jacobs has accepted the offer on the table.

The appointment has been approved by the top echelon of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) pending an official announcement from the presidency and subsequent approval by Parliament’s appointment committee.

Allotey Jacobs now a perceived ally of the NPP was suspended by the NDC in 2020 over his public utterances on radio and on television.

A letter addressed to Mr. Jacobs and signed by the National Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said Mr. Jacobs was suspended for “persistent anti-party conduct”.

“The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress, acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, at its meeting held on Wednesday, the 6th day of May 2020, has suspended you forthwith as a member of the party, pursuant to articles 46(1), 46(6) and 46(8) of the party’s constitution for your persistent anti-party conduct.”

AFCON U-20: Ghana beat Cameroon on penalties to reach semi-finals

Ghana defeated Cameroon 4-2 on penalties to secure a place in the semi-final of the U20 African Cup of Nations in Mauritania.

The game at the end of 90 minutes and 30 minutes of extra time ended 1-1.

Cameroon who were tipped by connoisseurs of the game as favorites for the encounter dominated the opening minutes of the game, but failed to threaten goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad.

The Black Satellites started to dominate the game and came close to scoring in the 36th minute, a long range free kick from Precious Boah as clumsily kept out by goalkeeper Junior Hecube.

Ghana came close again in the 42nd minute, Precious Boah flicked a free kick from Fatawu Issahaku to the feet of Daniel Afriyie, but the Black Satellites skipper failed to hit the target as the game went into interval scoreless.

The opening minutes of the second half was evenly contested, but Ghana had the first attempt on goal in the half, a free kick from Precious Boah at the side of the 18 yard box was tipped over the bar by Junior Hecube.

Cameroon started to dominate the game and created a number of chances but they couldn’t take any of those chances as the game went into extra time.

The young Indomitable Lions broke the deadlock with 3 minutes to end the first extra, a corner kick from the son of the legendary Samuel Eto’o, Etinne Eto’o was headed in by Kevin-Prince Milla, son of Roger Miller.

Ghana hit back instantly, Frank Boateng calmly beat Junior Hecube to make it 1-1, Daniel Afriyie provided the assist.

Ghana came close to snatching the winner in second extra, Josepho Barnes failed to put the ball at the back of the net after a decent cross by Uzair Alhassan.

The game after 120 minutes went straight to penalties, Ghana won the shootout 4-2.

Daniel Afriyie, Frank Assinki, Ivan Anokye Mensah and Precious Boah converted their kicks, whiles the Cameroonians missed two of their kicks.

Ghana will now play the winner between Morocco and Tunisia.

FAKE SENIOR POLICE OFFICER GRABBED

The Mankessim Divisional Police Command have received numerous information that a 28- year-old Nana Opare, an unemployed and resident at Mankessim was going round and presenting himself as one of the senior officers at the District/Divisional Headquarters, Mankessim that he can assist anyone who wants to be enlisted into Ghana Police Service.

That he has used such false information to defraud a lot of people in Mankessim and it environs with various sums of money. Suspect Nana Opare is in Police custody assisting with investigation and when found guilty he will be arranged before court.


The Central Regional Police Command wishes to use this opportunity to announce to the general public that whoever has been defrauded or fallen victim to the suspect in this regard, should report to the Mankessim Divisional Police or the nearest police station.

The minister designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture has told the appointment committee of Parliament , government initiative to put up a Twenty Million Dollar national studio would help Ghana to achieve the status of film and music hub in the whole of West Africa.

Mr Awal explain that, without a strong culture and artistic foundation Ghana tourist board will not achieve their desire results and therefore it is important that, we build and strengthen our cultural strength and our heritage.

He said, national tourism law and national film authority has been established to help strengthen the activities of our tourism, arts and culture as country in order to improve the interest of the citizens for visiting out various tourist sites.

Mr Awal Mohammed gave a statistics of some Countries and level of funds they made from tourism in recent times. He said, Nigeria made Ninety Million dollars ($90 million) were made from film industry just two years ago which also created about One Million Jobs for the people, in HOLLYWOOD the film industry in the same year created Two Million, One Hundred Thousand Jobs and make about Twelve million dollars ($12 million) and in India also made about Four billion dollars from same film industry.

He added that, Ghana can equally do it, if we have the studio we can make sure to produce movies, films and to help the creative arts sector.

The tourism, arts and culture minister nominee made these comments at the appointment committee today Thursday 25 February, 2021, when he appeared before the appointment committee for vetting and the Hon member of Parliament for Odododiodioo, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye asked that, why are we not seeing Cultural display in our schools any longer and also, what would he do as Tourism, Arts and Culture minister to amend the current trend where almost every TV station in the country is showing only telenovelas from other foreign countries without a single Ghanaian cultural content.

The Hon member of Parliament for Damango and President’s ministerial nominee for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapoh has today told the appointment committee of Parliament, allegations on bribery against him by A-Plus was baseless with no facts.

This came to light today Wednesday 24 February, 2021 when the nominee appeared before the appointment committee for vetting and was asked by the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu to tell the Committee about the issues raised against him by A-PLUS and current State of the matter.

Mr Samuel Abdulai Jinapoh told the Committee , Commission of Human Right and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has thoroughly investigated into the matter and determined by proven himself and Mr Francis Asenso Boakye exonerated with all those corruption, thievery and abuse of power as it was being speculated around.

Mr Samuel Abdulai Jinapoh used the opportunity to tell Ghanaians and World at large to ignore those bribery allegations which was leveled against himself and Mr Francis Asenso Boakye during their previous position at the Presidency since it bears no facts and basis, after one of the State investigative body (CHRAJ) has done it work on the matter.

Council Of State Members Sworn In by President Akuffo Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today sworn in the 8th Council of State members with a call on them to proved to be effective in its functions coming from experience as well as different backgrounds.

Addressing members of the Council at the ceremony, President Akufo-Addo stated that “I look forward to working with a Council that will help deepen our democracy, and help enhance the quality of our governance, and I look forward to working with a Council that will help us deliver a prosperous Ghana.”

To this end, he was hopeful that the Council of State will continue to offer him honest advice, based on unvarnished truth, reiterating that the Council “should not, however, seek to give advice to a President, the effect of which is to undermine the independence of any of the other arms of government, especially the Judiciary”.

With Article 91(3) of the Constitution giving the Council an unfettered remit to advise other bodies like Parliament or any other public authority, the President underscored that “this is not meant to be a busybody’s charter, but, on matters of significant national importance, the Council can let its views be known.”

The President urged the Council of State to recollect at all times the changed nature of the political environment in which the country is currently operating.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the decision of the Ghanaian people, on 7th December 2020, to create virtual equality of representation in Parliament imposes on the principal actors of the State, an obligation to seek consciously and deliberately consensus in public undertakings.

“The Council of State is well-positioned to contribute to this development,” he added.

The President, thus, welcomed a vigorous exchange of ideas between the Presidency and the Council, adding that “it is my fervent wish and hope that this Council will help enrich the second term of my presidency for the benefit of the Ghanaian people so that, together, we can help realise the dreams of the founders of our nation to build, under God, a free, democratic, united, prosperous and happy Ghana, the Black Star of Africa, on the principles of democratic accountability, respect for human rights, the rule of law, and the dictates of social justice.”

With the Council having a broad scope of advisory functions in counselling the President, including in the sensitive exercise of creating new regions, President Akufo-Addo was expectant that the Council will get to work rapidly and efficiently to enable government function satisfactorily.

“Members of the Council, you have been sworn into office at a difficult time in the history of our nation, and indeed, of the world. We are confronted with the ravages of COVID-19, which have affected the lives and livelihoods of all Ghanaians. Through proactive measures put in place by Government, we have seen a rebound in economic activities,” he said.

The President continued, “However, these gains are now being threatened by the rising number of active cases in the so-called second wave that is sweeping the world. Winning the fight against the pandemic remains a collective duty and responsibility, so I appeal to you to help in this endeavour.”

The short organised ceremony for the project held on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Konkoma with residents who heaped praise to Dr Frank Frimpong for such move.

Addressing the media the purpose of the project, CEO of Garry Marvin memorial hospital explained that, his residents pass through hell and thorn before they get access to hygienic water for thier activities.
