Dombo’s family honours Dr. Bawumia with Chieftaincy title; tasks him to keep pursuing the vision of Dombo

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been charged to continue to pursue the vision of renowned Ghanaian politician, teacher and king Simon Diedong (SD) Dombo.

Chief of Duori, Naa Dombo III during a courtesy call on him by the Vice President as part of his official working visit to the Upper West Region, tasked him with the responsibility of pursuing to the letter, the vision of the late Member of Parliament for Jirapa-Lambussie, who was a key founder of the Northern People’s Party, the forebears of today’s New Patriotic Party.

According to him, the family acknowledges his contributions in re-igniting the link between the two families that championed the vision of the tradition.

He described his intervention as timely and prayed God grants him the strength and fortitude to soldier till the dream of the two families that started decades ago is achieved.

“We acknowledge your intervention in re-establishing the link between the Dombos and the Bawumias. I am by this tasking you to pursue the vision of your father Dombo from where he left off. You have henceforth been tasked with the responsibility as a true son to achieve this dream that was birthed decades ago”, he charged.

Naa Dombo III also bestowed on him a Chieftaincy title “Leweh” to wit “the chief (Dombo) has returned”.

He explained that it was as a result of the traits of the late SD Dombo seen in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that led the Dombo family to honour him with the title to encourage him to achieve his assigned task. Dr. Bawumia was also named as co-Chairman of the SD Dombo Foundation.

An elated Bawumia later paid glowing tribute to one of the pillars of the NPP at his graveside where he laid a wreath and prayed for his peaceful repose.

The late Douri-Na, was reputed to be the first educated chieftain in the Upper Region of Ghana.

He was one of the founders of the Northern People’s Party and became its first Chairman with Mumuni Bawumia (the Vice President’s father as Vice Chairman). The Northern Peoples Party later merged with other parties to form the United Party.

During the Second Republic, Dombo was also a member of the first Parliament under the membership of the ruling Progress Party after he was elected in the 1969 Ghanaian general elections.

NDC ought to stop the galamsey politics now… NPP to NDC

The one consistent principle of the Mahama NDC has been cakeism, their ardent belief that they alone should be able to have their cake and eat it. And so, true to that spirit, National Communications Officer for NDC, Sammy Gyamfi speaking at a press conference at the NDC headquarters earlier today, alleged that some members of the NPP and government are behind galamsey in the country.

He described the measures and strategies put in place by the Akufo-Addo government to fight galamsey as a clear deception, and indicated that the administration has failed woefully in the fight against galamsey.

Hearing the NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi spouting such rhetoric at his press conference makes me wonder if the NDC as a political organisation would ever get serious in this country.

The impertinence of Sammy Gyamfi, and the litany of claims by the NDC is expected. Indeed, their conduct is like the pot calling the kettle black because their track record in the galamsey menace is horrible. It is a no brainer situation, but then, the NDC appears to have no brains or conscience – we are talking about a party that shamelessly launched the Youth in Small Scale Mining programme in the Eastern Region, which apparently opened the floodgate for galamsey.

Yes, the NDC had the opportunity to pull the plug on Galamsay but they rather enabled it and watch it festered badly.

Of course, the galamsey situation got so bad under Mahama in 2015, such that he had to hang his shame on the people of Kyebi, tagging the place as the headquarters of Galamsay in the country.

Weirdly, Mahama ate the humble pie a few days later and rendered an unqualified apology to the people of Kyebi for describing the town as the headquarters of galamsey in the country when he was dared by the Okyenhene to back his spurious claims with incontrovertible evidence.

“I’ve regretted the reaction my statement has generated among the people and chiefs of Okyeman and “I know it worries you,” he said in Twi.

“So, I have retracted it. I know the galamsey problem is a problem for us all.”

This shenanigan not only disgraces him and his party – it indicts them for their role in enabling the infamous Chinese galamsay kingpin, Aisha Huang to thrive in Ghana.

For those that may have missed this; the erstwhile Mahama government issued an infinite resident permit to Aisha Huang.

Precisely on 28th March 2015, Aisha Huang was given an indefinite resident permit to live here in perpetuity and to engage in her illegal activities. This happened under the Mahama administration. Meanwhile, she was unsuccessful in getting the permit during the President Kufour era.

So you see, any dastardly attempt by the NDC to rationalize the political economy of galamsay must be roundedly condemned. It is beyond dispute that under John Mahama-led government, the national record of the deleterious impact of galamsay left a lot to be desired. It was simply unprecedented.

In essence, attempting to fault bureaucracy or bureaucratic red tape for the pernicious impact of galamsay is at best, a farce and, at the very worst, grossly irresponsible and downright politically repressive.

All that the Akufo-Addo administration has been doing is simply managing a very bad situation as well as it can by the deft and relatively constructive application of the statutory laws of the land.

The NDC is fast becoming a model of lazy populism with no real ideas apart from their usual triangulated survival antics.

An old adage have it that, when you’re trying to breath under water, you will have to think of the consequences and reach for sane fresh air. It might be wiser for them to proceed gently in galamsey conversation.

DR. BAWUMIA’S TOUR IN THE NORTH: HE DESCRIBES HIS POSITION A DIRTY JOB

VEEP Dr Bawumia

H. E Dr Alhaji Mahmudu Bawumia the Vice president is said to had taken his visit to the Northern region, where he met Party Executives from six constituencies in Tamale yesterday.
At the meeting is said to had made a statement which incite his fellow Northerners against Akans.

In their local dialect to explain why it was critical for all Northern Delegates to unite behind Alhaji Bawumia to become the first Muslim Northerner to be elected Presidential Candidate regardless of whether or not it will help us win 2024 elections.

He maliciously took the opportunity to prove to them about how the Akans in the NPP hate Northern Muslims and thus offer them ”dirty jobs” in government.

To back his claim Dr Bawumia sighted the Supreme Court case when he was put in the witness box for the whole world to see and that if it had not gone well, he would have been easy target.

Furthermore, Dr Bawumia sought to rubbish the role of the Vice President as a dirty job that NPP has found convenient to give out to Northerners because basically there is nothing to do as Vice President unless the President assigns you something to do.
“it is “Yes Sir (Yesa), Master (Massa) job”. he said

At the meeting all phones of participats were taken away by the Regional Secretary and they were frisked searched to ensure no information leaks.

Speaking in local dialect, Alhaji said “my brothers and sisters, you have me, an example of a man who the NPP has used to do a very dirty job as Vice President. If you do not help me to become flagbearer then that is the end of us. We shall continue to do that dirty job for the Akans who have no respect for us”

Sammi Awuku and some other Akans who were part of the delegation could not hear whatever went on there as they could not understand the language.

Participation were given Ghc100each as a token after the meeting.

Let’s build effective collaboration to fight illegal mining. Prez Nana Addo

President Nana Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to working hand-in-hand with Chiefs, traditional rulers and all stakeholders in the fight against Galamsey.

According to President Akufo-Addo, “it is obvious that, if we are to win the fight, you and I have to take the lead to collaborate closely to do so. That is why I am here today.

Addressing the National House of Chiefs on Wednesday, 5th October 2022, the President noted that eighty percent (80%) of the lands in Ghana continue to be under the custody of Chiefs, whereas the remainder of twenty percent (20%) is held in trust by the President.

What this means, he said is that, ultimately, the welfare of the state of the lands is the joint responsibility of Chiefs and the President, although, by statute, the minerals in the soil belong to the President in trust for the people.

“Historically, we discharged that responsibility well. Even though for centuries, we have been a mining nation, mining did not pose a threat to the health of our environment and water bodies. The rules that you put in place for mining ensured that the sanctity of our lands remained intact, and our water bodies remained unpolluted. Tragically, in the modern era, that is no longer the case. And that is why I have come to you today to talk about how, together, we can repair this dramatic situation,” he said.

Teachers, the bedrock of our transformational education reforms – Bawumia

Veep

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has celebrated the remarkable achievements chalked by Ghana’s teachers, describing them as the ‘bedrock’ of the ongoing reforms and massive investment in Ghana’s education sector since 2017.

Government, he pledged, will therefore continue to partner all stakeholders in education, particularly teachers, to ensure that the objective of producing graduates ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution is achieved.

Delivering a speech on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the University of Development Studies (UDS) campus in Tamale on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 to climax activities marking this year’s World Teacher Day, Dr. Bawumia indicated that the Day presents an opportunity to put a spotlight on the critical responsibility teachers bear in ensuring that our children enjoy the right quality education.

“The government of President Akufo-Addo acknowledges the value of education to human development and nation building, hence our massive investment in our education system including our teachers. However, the massive investment in education will come to nothing if our teachers do not rise to the occasion and respond positively to the great vision of transforming our nation through education. It is a proven fact that no nation in the world has developed without a conscious investment in its education system and the teachers who deliver the education,” he noted.

“Teachers are profoundly essential to our world because they deliver education and as the world acknowledges that education is the most powerful weapon that fights poverty, insecurity, environmental degradation, gender and racial discrimination, diseases and many other human sufferings, it is important that those who deliver education are well acknowledged and appreciated.”

The Vice President continued: “Indeed, the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers’ synchronizes very well with Government’s education transformation agenda. Our education transformation agenda hinges on training our people to be creative, innovative, critical thinkers and technologically astute to lead our forward march towards the 4th industrial revolution.

“It is in the light of this that the Government has introduced the standard based curriculum that focuses on the four Rs – Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic and cReativity which will lead to 21st century skills of critical thinking, innovation, collaboration, communication and problem-solving,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

Emphasizing the key role played by teachers in Government’s quest for accelerated development, the Vice President acknowledged that the success of the intentional and focused attention on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), massive investments to make technical vocational education and training (TVET) more attractive to learners, a target of achieving tertiary enrolment ratio of 40% by the year 2030, and the provision of more resources to the National Teaching Council in support of Government’s teacher regulation and professionalization policy are all dependent to a large extent, on the cooperation of teachers.

“All these strategies to use education to transform our nation can only happen when we have our teachers on our side. The teacher’s role is critical than any other in-school factor that influences education outcomes.

“The Government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo remains committed to our ‘Teacher First’ policy in ensuring that our teachers, who are central to any education reforms, are fully tooled, skilled and supported to deliver quality learning outcomes to support our development aspirations.”

The winner of the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize, Stella Gyimaah Larbi of Adenta Community JHS received a house worth Ghs300,000, a scholarship to study abroad, an educational trip to Dubai, and accelerated promotion to the next rank, known as ‘Out of Turn Promotion.’

Other award winners received vehicles, educational trips abroad, and in most cases, a scholarship to study in any public tertiary institution of their choice in Ghana. For the first time, the best Non-Teaching Staff received a Saloon car as part of the award.

POLITICIAN WILL DISAPPOINT YOU, WORK WITH YOUR OWN DESTINY, HON KENNEDY AGYAPONG URGED YOUTH.

Hon Kennedy Agyapong

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has challenged the youth to take their destinies into their own hands, as the government cannot provide employment to the growing number of unemployed youth in the country.

He said the youth constitute a greater percentage of the country’s human resources and holds the key to the future, adding “they should not rely solely on government to turn their fortunes around.”

“Ghana has a population of over 32million and in sharing one cake, what size can you get,” he quizzed.

“I am not quite sure where the concept came from of a national cake that exists to be shared among all of us and all we need to worry about is the equitable distribution. Since we do not seem to worry very much about how this cake, so called, is put together, it is not surprising that there is never enough to go around,” he stated

The NPP Presidential hopeful made the call during the 6th Edition of the Guidance Conference in Cape Coast. The programme was organised by the Guidance Foundation International, headed by Ohene Kofi Sarfo.

Experience sharing
The conference also saw two speakers share their experiences in Ghana and how they have defied all odds to fuel the inspiration of others.

A speaker narrated how he sold his car to buy 11 machines to start his sawing business, and hoped to employ, in the next five years, 1000 people in his work. To realise this dream, Mr Agyapong promised to give him 100 sewing machines to inject into his business.
