Some section of Assembly members including former Assembly members in the Afigya Kwabre South district in the Ashanti Region, has appealed to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danqwah Akuffo-Addo, to consider the good works done by Adu Poku Christian (APC), the District Chief Executive of the area, and retain him in his second term.
Addressing a press conference on behalf of the Assembly members, former Assembly member for Dwenase-Adubinso electoral area Hon Thomas Owusu Ansah said, as head of the Assembly, Hon Adu Poku Christian always ensures equitable distribution of resources available to the Assembly. According to Hon Owusu Ansah, the DCE has performed extremely well in his first term and they believes will do even much better for the area if he is maintained.
He added that, changing APC will cause a delay in the progress of the area considering the service he has rendered to the District since his appointment.
They added that, Adu Poku Christian has completed most of the abandoned projects under the NDC since he took the office.
The DCE together with MP has constructed a lot of roads and broken Bridges and also made provision of mechanized and manual borehole for the people in the district.
Hon. Adu Poku Christian outfit helped the NPP in winning the Parliamentary seat.
According to the Assembly member, APC never undermine the work of the NPP and his Member of Parliament Owuraku Aidoo, and they will assiduously improved the developmental projects in the district, if the President maintains him as the DCE.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured the chiefs and people of northern Ghana, especially residents of the Savannah Region, that work on the Daboya Bridge would begin this year.

President Akufo-Addo urged the Armed Forces to continue to collaborate with the Ministries of National Security, Interior, Foreign Affairs and the Ghana Revenue Authority, as well as all relevant ministries and agencies, to ensure that the country maintains a robust disposition that will deter potential aggressors, who may attempt to derail the political and socio-economic gains chalked so far.

President Nana Akufo-Addo has said his government is not freezing salary hikes for public sector workers for the next four years.
Speaking at the 11th quadrennial delegates’ congress of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, 23 March 2021 on the theme: ’75 years of TUC: Building a stronger union in a challenging world of work’, the President said: “Let me reiterate: the salary increment for public sector workers has not been frozen for the next four years”.
“He noted, however, that “the truth of the matter is that we are not in normal times and I appeal to all Ghanaians, including organised labour, to assist the government in this endeavour to have rebuild our public finances and economy”.
The President explained: “We need to mobilise additional resources to cater for the new challenges confronting us while meeting other statutory requirements”.
“I, therefore, urge all Ghanaian workers, to bear with the government in these unusual and rather challenging times. I’m confident that sooner, rather than later, and together we can create the happy, progressive and prosperous nation we all desire”, he said.
According to him, “COVID-19 resulted in a drastic slowdown in economic activity and a huge drop in domestic revenue combined with the sharp and [unparalleled] hike in COVID-19-related expenditure”.
“In sum, this unprecedented crisis, led to a sudden shortfall in government revenues amounting to some GHS13.6 billion and an unexpected and unavoidable rise in expenditure of some GHS11.7 billion”, he noted.
Last week, the Technical Adviser at the Ministry of Finance, Dr Samuel Nii Noi Ashong, said the government cannot offer huge salary increases to public sector workers for the next few years.
During a discussion on the 2021 budget organised by the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), Dr Ashong said: “If you look at the budget, COVID-19 is not expected to abate until the end of 2023 and we’re all looking to be tightening our belts for a while and people should not be expecting huge wage increases in the course of the next few years. This is because we don’t have money to pay for it”.
“You’ll realise that between wages and compensations for employees and unencumbered domestic revenues, if you net off all the mandated transfers which are required by law, talk of GETFund transfers, National Health Insurance, District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the rest which is left is not enough to pay for wages and salaries, goods and service, social intervention programmes, that portion alone is not enough to pay for even wages and salaries,” he said.
He said if the government were to cater to all those demands, it “will be left with 40% in the hole and government would have to go and borrow to pay for that extra 40% plus goods and services and other commitments.”
“It is not a rosy picture and let’s call a spade a spade and so when people go on about saying we don’t need the taxes and government must give this and that, the reality is that we don’t have the money”, Dr Ashong added.
The government of Ghana’s total expenditure (including clearance of arrears) is projected at GHS113,750 million, equivalent to 26.2 per cent of GDP for 2021, caretaker Finance Minister Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu told Parliament on Friday, 12 March 2021 when he delivered this year’s budget.
The amount “represents a growth of 13.7 per cent above the outturn of GHS100,052 million recorded in 2020”.
“Mr Speaker, wages and salaries are projected to amount to GHS25,799 million and constitute 22.7 per cent of the total expenditure (including arrears clearance) for 2021”, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said.
As a percentage of GDP, the wage bill is projected to be 5.9 per cent in 2021 compared to the 6.5 per cent recorded in 2020.
The Suame MP said the use of goods and services is also projected at GHS5,967 million or 1.4% of GDP.
It represents 5.2 per cent of the projected total expenditure (including rears clearance).
Also, he noted, interest payments are projected at GHS35,864 million, equivalent to 8.3 per cent of GDP in 2021.
“Of this amount, domestic interest payments will constitute about 79.1 per cent and amount to GHS28,368 million. Transfers to statutory funds as well as all other earmarked funds are estimated at GHS18,081 million (4.2% of GDP), representing 52.2 per cent growth over the recorded outturn for 2020”, detailed.
Capital expenditure is projected at GHS11,423 million (2.6% of GDP) in 2021, a decline of 5.5 per cent over the 2020 outturn,
“Of this amount, domestic financed capital expenditure is estimated at GHS3,310 million (0.8% of GDP)”, the lawmaker said.
Further, an amount of GHS8,112 million has been estimated for foreign-financed capital expenditure and this will be funded by a combination of project grants and loans.
On budget balances and financing operations for 2021, Mr Kkyei-Mensah-Bonsu said based on the estimates for total revenue & grants and total expenditure, the 2021 fiscal operations will result in an overall fiscal deficit of GHS41,298 million, equivalent to 9.5 per cent of GDP.
“Mr Speaker, financing of the fiscal deficit will come from both domestic and foreign sources”, he told Parliament, adding: “Net domestic financing will amount to GHS25,424 million (5.9% of GDP) while net foreign financing will amount to GHS15,870 million (3.7% of GDP) and will include a planned international capital market programme to raise up to US$5 billion, of which US$1.5 billion will be used to support the implementation of the 2021 budget and the rest for liability management”.
“Mr Speaker, a corresponding Primary deficit equivalent to 1.3 per cent of GDP, is also projected for the year”.
The EIU report for NDC to present a new face as presidential candidate beside JDM, is very dangerous for NDC’s victory 2024 .and may put all the presidential aspirants in danger of defeat from the grassroots.
Unless JDM himself gives very good reasons and humbly voluntary decides not to contest the up coming NDC presidential aspirants election. If not, any elected presidential candidate will get an internal betrayal defeat from the grassroots.
This EIU news should be worrisome internal and a problematic issue to deal with immediately .the love for JDM externally is unprecedented. No presidential candidate of the NDC has ever pulled more votes than JDM before.
No Presidential candidate of the NDC has ever gotten the support of the grassroots bent on bringing him JDM back to power, no matter the number of defeats he gets.
Today JDM hold 60/100 stake( votes) of the NDC as a former President. The Eiu should come again. The NDC party structure should be worshipping JDM as a god in the interest of the party today.
Especially in opposition. The NDC party structure should be worrisome of how we will all come together after the presidential contest, to give honesty loyal support to the elected presidential candidate. for victory 2024 general election.
The party structure should make sure the Veep for any presidential candidate chosen is accepted internal honestly by all .especially former aspirants and power blocks. The EIU report would either break us or bring us together as a party. depending on how positive we as a party take it.
The EIU should come again, I Stephen Atubiga have a strategy and Master plan in packaging him JDM well, well, to give him victory maximum of 8hurs after poles are close on election day 2024. And declare him President in 24hurs as his campaign manager . Don’t forget the strategic moves to secure victory for any other candidate would be different as a campaign manager. Time will Tell.
Despite me Atubiga defeating JDM and the other aspirants coming this presidential elections , the NDC party is Paramount. The NDC party is bigger than me and us all. When the interest of the NDC is always put first , beside looking at who is leading us , who and where is his running mate from .the NDC would have been saving this country from the hands of this incompetent government. Stephen Atubiga.
Johnson Anane, an Assistant Lecturer at the Sunyani Technical University, has filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court asking for a declaration that God is the creator of mankind and not through evolution as advanced by scientists.
The lecturer is also raising issues on the position of science that sees the Earth to be a planet in the solar system and that its movement around the Sun is the cause of day and night, years and seasons.
According to Anane, who argues that days, nights, years and seasons were created by God, the Theory of Evolution and the Theory of the Solar System goes contrary to the Bible which posits that God created man.
“The implications of the theories are that the creative work of God as stated in Genesis has been cancelled, denied or nullified,” he stated in his writ.
According to a Daily Graphic report sighted by richnews, the lecturer, besides falling on the court to uphold his claims, also wants the court to ban the study of the Theory of Evolution and the solar system in the country.
“These theories are taught in schools (Primary, JHS and SHS) and need to be banned or abolished,” Anane averred.
Joined in the suit as respondents are the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, the President of the Ghana Science Association of Ghana and the Attorney-General.
The Attorney-General, in a preliminary objection, has asked the court to dismiss the suit, describing it as without merit and an abuse of the court’s processes.
The AG argues that the suit raises no cause of action as it does not state any constitutional issue for the court to interpret or any constitutional violations by the respondents.
“The motion is incompetent and does not properly invoke the court’s jurisdiction under Article 2(1) and (2) of the Constitution of Ghana, 1992 and does not also comply with Rules 45 and 46 of the Supreme Court Rules, 1996 C.I.16,” the A-G contended.
According to the Daily Graphic, the case was initially filed at a Kumasi High Court but was struck out by the court on grounds of jurisdictional limits.
Justice Patricia Quansah, the presiding judge of the aforementioned Kumasi High Court, declared: “I will have to strike out this matter not so much as the plaintiff’s claims not disclosing any reasonable cause of action, but because properly so-called this court has no jurisdiction to deal with the matter.”
The plaintiff was then advised by the High Court to take the matter to the Supreme Court.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Acheampong has paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Professor Emeritus Oti Boateng at his house in Koforidua, the Regional Capital.
The purpose of his visit was to formerly introduce himself to the Omanhene and ask for his support during his tenure of office.
Accompanied the Regional Minister were the Chief Director of Regional Coordinating Council Mr. Samuel Donkor, Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South Hon. Isaac Apaw Gyasi, Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben North, Hon. Comfort Asante, Municipal Chief Executive for Kwaebibirim, Hon. Seth Antwi Boasiako, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Vice Chairman, Alhaji Omar Bodinga, NPP Regional Organiser Mr. Kwame Appiah Kodua and some technical staff from the ERCC.
Daasebre Oti Boateng welcomed the minister to his house and recounted the independence of Ghana. He said that it was a collective effort and not solely based on an individual as was being propagated in the country by some section of political populace.
He noted that Ghanaians should refrain from divisive politics and allow government to spearhead his root-based development model because it held the key to the emancipation of African from economic doldrums.
According to him, his root-based model was on the exchange of ideas, networking, inclusivity and diversity of thoughts which would propel the country to go forward as was in the case of China. “In ten years’ time, China will be a greatest economy whether America likes it or not,” He added.
The Omanhene also advocated for cleanliness in the New Juaben Traditional Area, code named, ‘Operation Clean Community’ to help in the development of the region. He advised the MCEs present to bring their ideas to bear and not only say what the minister wants to hear but also correct him for the good of the region.
Hon. Seth Acheampong on his part expressed appreciation to the Omanhene and was hopeful to fulfil the dream of the president.
He pledged to follow the root based model as espoused by Daasebre Oti Boateng since it was needed for the region and Ghana as a whole. The minister informed Daasebre on his idea to work hard for the region to attain a metropolitan status and asked him to support him to achieve that vision.
National Security has arrest three persons for their alleged involvement in the stealing and sale of COVISHIELD vaccines belonging to the Government of Ghana.
Stephen Dzisenu, a 37-year-old Disease Control Officer of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital is said to have stolen 36 vials of COVIDSHIELD and Lord Pabitey, a Disease Control Officer of the La Bawalashie Polyclinic, now at large, also allegedly stole 26 vials of COVIDSHIELD.
Cosmos Allotey a 42-year-old Occupational Health and Safety Officer, is said to have received the stolen COVIDSHIELD from Pabitey and Dzisenu.
Allotey allegedly administered the vaccines at a cost of GH¢200.00 per a jab.
Joseph Knight Gaisie, a Project Assistant and a former Laboratory Technician at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital is also being held for abetment of crime.
The three – Dzisenu, Gaisie and Allotey – have been remanded into lawful custody by an Accra Circuit Court to reappear on April 1.
Prosecuting, Detective Sergeant Frederick Sarpong, prayed the Court presided over by Mrs. Afia Owusuaa not to take the pleas of the accused persons as investigations were ongoing and efforts were underway to arrest others believed to be involved in the crime.
The accused charges were not read out to them. However the facts of the case were read out in open court.
Detective Sergeant Sarpong said accused persons, when granted bail may not only interfere with investigations but other witnesses.
He said from the facts, other persons involved were yet to be arrested and prayed the Court to remand them.
Lawyers of the accused persons prayed for bail, saying their clients were servants of the Republic and they would not do anything to interfere with investigations.
According to the lawyers, the accused had fixed places of abode and people who would stand as sureties for them when granted bail.
The Court turned down the bail application put in by defence counsel, and said it was inclined by the facts the prosecution had told the Court that other accused persons were yet to be arrested and investigations ongoing.
The facts as presented by the prosecution were that the complainants were National Security Operatives.
The prosecution said during the first week of March this year, the operatives received intelligence that some health officials had been stealing and selling the COVID-19 vaccines brought in by the Government of Ghana.
Detective Sergeant Sarpong said through intelligence, Allotey’s name was mentioned and his phone number obtained as the one who injects the COVID-19 vaccines for a fee.
He said the complainant contacted Allotey and feigned interest in buying some of the COVID-19 vaccines, so he charged the complainant GH¢200.00 per vaccination.
The prosecution said on March 16 this year, Allotey was arrested when he was invited to Labone in Accra to inject the complainant at a fee of GH¢200.00.
He said when Allotey was searched, eight COVIDSHIELD vials, eight used COVIDSHIELD, 173 pieces of 0.5 ml unused injection syringes and cotton were found on him.
The prosecution said during interrogation, Allotey mentioned Dzisenu and Pabitey as his source.
He said Allotey led the National Security operatives to arrest Dzisenu and Gaisie.
The prosecution said Allotey, in his investigative cautioned statement, admitted buying 36 of the vials of government procured COVIDSHIELD vaccine at the cost of GH¢18,000.00.
According to him, Allotey further said that, he sold 20 of the vials of COVIDSHIELD at a cost of GH¢16,000.00 and later returned 15 vials to Dzisenu.
The prosecution said Allotey said he also bought 26 vials of the COVIDSHIELD from Pabitey at the cost GH¢4,800.00.
Mr Sarpong said Dzisenu in his cautioned statement, mentioned Gaisie as the one who aided and facilitated the sale of the stolen CONVIDSHIELD vaccines to Allotey.
The Prosecution said efforts were underway to arrest Pabitey and others.
